Home Renovation, Spiders, and Lighting, Oh My!

The sassy scotch drinker and I are doing some home renovation.  I’ve lived in this house for almost 11 years.  It was one of those single gal purchases of yesteryear, and when the sassy scotch drinker and I got married, we figured it made sense to consolidate everything to my place.  Before the sassy scotch drinker moved in, my older brother was my roommate.  It was a good arrangement because I had plenty of space, and we both worked a ton, so we rarely saw each other.  Not that seeing my brother was bad, but it was pretty chill.

I’ve decided that I wanted to redo the flooring in half of the house, which also means that I want to paint the rooms.  I’ll probably want to change some other things out along the way because that’s what seems to happen with renovations.  The other evening we moved a bookcase.  Mind you, it’s an old, antique bookcase that has not been moved since I bought the house.  I was surprised to find a few letters for my brother and me from 10 years ago that had fallen behind it.  I was even more surprised to find a big, old spider.

I hate spiders!  It’s more than hate.  I have an irrational fear of spiders.  Having been bit by a brown recluse and ending up in the hospital, I’m not a big fan of our eight-legged friends.  I get that they eat the bad bugs, and that usually they are harmless, but it doesn’t matter.  I still freak out.  The sassy scotch drinker is not huge fan of spiders.  We’ve had little “disagreements” about who is more scared of spiders, and I always win that argument by shrieking like a nincompoop and running out of the room where the spider is lurking.  The sassy scotch drinker will then take one of my shoes to kill it, and it always seems to be one of the nice stilettos that causes the spider’s quick demise.  Having spider guts on a pair of heels is not my preference, but it’s better than having to kill it myself.

Sometimes I miss having my brother around.  He was the best spider killer around.  He never used my shoes, and he found an old rolled up magazine was the best weapon to use against the evil arachnids.

I am hoping the rest of this renovation is spider free.  Luckily we have all of the carpet out of the family room.  I can’t wait to have the new hardwood floors installed.  I just have to pick out new banisters and lighting fixtures.

P.S. I’ve fallen in love with most everything at EuroStyleLighting.com, especially this:
