What’s the Deal with Pregnancy Photos?

I wrote this awhile back, but after seeing an abundance of relatives and friends posting their pregnancy photos, I feel this message needs to be shared again:

So I know that I won’t be winning points for my opinion on this, but if I ever have kids of my own, I will not have any pictures of me visibly pregnant or directly after giving birth. To each their own, but I do not understand why women like to capture their pregnant figure on film. I know many folks out there like to turn these occasions into Kodak moments for their posterity to muse over. Nonetheless, I have no desire to see a fatter, bloated version of myself.

Hospitals are not venues that I consider camera appropriate. Who in their right mind would snap a photo of someone right after they had major surgery? When I had my gall bladder removed several years ago, the last thing on anyone’s mind was to emblazon my stitched up self on film. –And if they had, I would have hopped right out of the recovery bed in my post-anesthesia state and given them a good talking to.

I am not opposed to pictures of the newly born child, but leave the mother out of it. She’s just come out of a major medical procedure, so give her a break.

I know there are others out there that share my sentiment. You know, I think even my mother was of the same mind. I do not recall ever seeing one picture of her in any sort of pregnant state.

So while you may conjecture that pregnancy that all pregnant women are beautiful, who really wants this to haunt you for the rest of your days?
