Good Grammar

Using good grammar is sexy. Whether it is written communication or a general conversation, I appreciate when others go to the effort to use good writing or language skills. With the ubiquity of texting and instant messaging, I’ve noticed a decline in grammar. As a society, we’ve become lackadaisical in our communication, and I find it completely irksome, so stop it!

I was invited to an interview for a job I really want. As part of the interview process, I had to take a grammar test. I haven’t taken a test of this nature for several years, so I was a bit nervous. I like to do very well on tests; it’s my thing. Because I was forewarned about the grammar test, I took a couple GRE tests just to brush up the proper use of prepositions and punctuation. Luckily it was much easier than the GRE, so my apprehension was for naught.

The sassy scotch drinker earned an English degree. I’m quite certain it is what endeared him to my mom. It’s nice to be with someone who is smart, and I’ll even grant that he knows word that I do not. He’s like a walking dictionary. It was refreshing to date him because so many of the men I dated were so boringly dimwitted. I do want to state that not all of them were stupid; I don’t want to spread that unruly generalization and have it bite in me in the butt later.

I enjoy the company of smart people. They don’t necessarily have to be well-educated. I know plenty of dumb PhDs. Honestly the more you spend earning higher education degrees, the more you realize that you know nothing, and even if you spent your lifetime learning, you would never learn all there is to know, which is somewhat of a tragedy. The ones that are thoroughly convinced they are wise are the foolish ones.

On that happy thought, I’m off to Barnes & Nobles. I required more learnin‘.
