With today's advancements in technology, it's not a surprise that they have impacted our social graces for the better. With online tools that expedite our ability to communicate social events, it can be a wonder that people forget basic manners when it comes to RSVPing. I recently received a wedding invitation with the request to RSVP to an email address. It is something so simple and yet, easily forgotten. Therefore, I am here to publicly chastise you all for being so naughty when it comes to such a matter.
RSVP is the acronym for a French phrase, "répondez, s'il vous plaît," which means"please reply." RSVPing is easy. It merely takes a phone call or even just a simple mouse click. You have no excuse for not following this simple request that may accompany a formal invitation or event email. Your friends, colleagues, and/or associates were kind enough to consider your attendance at this occasion, so you should be kind enough to reply with your acceptance or regrets.
Moreoever, if you RSVP that you will be attending something important like a wedding, and you do not end up showing, you had better have a very good excuse. Chances are the bride, or in all actuality the bride's parents, probably paid a sizeable amount for the meal that you missed. Plus, it's just poor manners!
So let this be a learning that you can put to good use. Frankly, if you accept an invitation to one of my soirées and do not show, I guarantee that you will not be invited again, unless you are in the hospital having major surgery.
